Outdoor Updates

We have finally got some changes in our front and back yards! In the front, we have our caladiums blooming. Some are from the bulbs we planted and some we had to buy new plants due to the amounts of water off the roof when it rains. Aaron is installing gutters as we speak to fix that problem. Here are pictures of my first home garden!

This little guy on the right got stepped on and broken. He is making a valiant comeback though.
I also planted white and green and purple and green kale.
The one by the door only has one leaf (I think that is what you call it) but that is where we are having the rain issue. It is doing a lot better than the one on the other side... I think because it gets more sun.
The one on the left has a little nub but I think I might have to plant the pretty one in the center there. I got an extra potted one just in case.

Next, we got a patio set for the back yard. It is a Better Homes and Gardens Bistro Set from Walmart. It was hard to find in stalk but well worth the effort.

What I Have Been Making This Week

This week I have been cooking/ baking up a storm. I think I may be finally getting into it. We will see how long it lasts and how much I experiment.

First, Aaron and I worked together to make pizza. We have made homemade pizza before but not with the Publix dough, just with the packaged stuff. So we got the dough and followed the directions on the sticker. Of course, since it is a ball of dough, Aaron had to pretend he worked in a pizzeria.

Then we finished shaping the dough and added our toppings. We made a huge mess but it was worth the clean up.

Next, we baked it per the directions and it was DELICIOUS!

Also, this weekend, I made Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownies that I saw on Megan's blog Fried Green Pickles.
Recipe and Photo From Bakingbites.com

Ingredients

Brownies
1/2 cup butter
2-oz dark chocolate, coarsely chopped
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 tsp red food coloring
2/3 cup all purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt

Cheesecake Mixture
8-oz cream cheese, room temperature
1/3 cup sugar
1 large egg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F. Line an 8- or 9-inch square baking pan with aluminum foil and lightly grease.
In a small, heatproof bowl, melt butter and chocolate together. Stir with a fork until very smooth. Set aside to cool for a few minutes.
In a large bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, vanilla extract and red food coloring. Add in the chocolate mixture and stir until smooth. Batter should be red. If a brighter red is desired, add an additional 1/2 tsp food coloring. Add flour and salt into the bowl and stir until everything is just combined and no streaks of dry ingredients remain.
Pour into prepared pan and spread into an even layer.
Prepare cheesecake mixture. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, egg and vanilla extract until smooth. Drop in dollops onto prepared brownie batter. Gently swirl two batters with a butter knife.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, until brownies and cheesecake are set. A knife inserted into the cheesecake mixture should come out clean and the edges will be lightly browned.
Cool in the pan completely before slicing and serving, either at room temperature or chilled.
Brownies can be refrigerated, covered, for several days.
Makes 16 large brownies or 24 smaller brownies

Finally, Aaron asked for Banana Nut Bread with out nuts, so I found this recipe of Banana Banana Bread. I got the recipe on AllRecipes.com.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 1/3 cups mashed overripe bananas

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. Stir in eggs and mashed bananas until well blended. Stir banana mixture into flour mixture; stir just to moisten. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
  3. Bake in preheated oven for 60 to 65 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack.
I hope you try and enjoy!

Dreaming of Color... on my Front Door

I am really getting the itch to paint my front door. As usual all Aaron can say about color is "I don't care". So I would love y'all's input.
This is the house now besides my pink and green caladiums that have come up (a picture to come). And below are some random front doors that I have found. Let me know if you like any of them or if you think of another color that would look good.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully I will be painting soon!

What A Great Week!!!!!!

There are some really great things happening this week that I am so excited about. First, today is Easter! Happy Easter everyone. I hope everyone had a wonderful day and had great times with family an friends. We went to Church this morning and had a traditional Easter lunch with my family. Mom got a honey baked ham (Aaron made chicken for me), and she made mac and cheese, deviled eggs, broccoli salad, potato salad, rolls, corn, and berry cobbler. It was great and we are not hungry for dinner!

Also, today officially starts ROYAL WEDDING WEEK! Yes, I am just a little excited! There will be tons of programming on the morning shows and on TLC, BBC America, and Lifetime leading up to the big day. The hardest thing will be deciding which things to watch. The wedding is Friday morning at 11 am in England. So I will be up sometime between 3-5am  to watch (depending on how excited I am).

Finally, the NFL draft starts on Thursday! I am so proud that there are so many Auburn Tigers to choose from. I will be excitedly watching to see where they all go! I will also be watching for Gamecock players to since my husband is a big fan.

I hope everyone will enjoy this week as much as I will!

Week Update Including This Weeks New Recipe

Sorry I have not posted in a while. I have been really busy lately. Just wanted to update y'all on my week. Aaron and I started kickball. We are on a team with many of our friends and our team has been together for 2-3 years now. We had 2 games: game one was a 4-4 tie (yes you can tie in kickball) and game 2 was a 16 or 17-1 win (not to be mean but I really lost count after the 5 inning). Kickball season is a lot of fun and will carry us through May.

I have been also doing a some recreational reading and educational reading. I am currently reading Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin. It is a great and light read. I have read it once already but wanted to read it again before the movie comes out.

Also, I am reading Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat by Dr. Michelle May. I have heard her talk at a conference and wanted to learn more so I could use her techniques with my clients. I really love it so far and would recommend it to anyone.

Finally, I have been looking for new recipes. I frequent The Sisters Cafe blog and find tons of good looking recipes. The one I tried this week was the Black Bean and Sweet Corn Quinoa, click here for picture and recipe. It was great with flounder last night and then tonight, I put the leftovers on ground turkey nachos. I have really been wanting to try Quinoa because it is a great source of protein but in a grain form for those of us that do not really "like" most meat options. It was great at both meals and you can eat it cold on a bed of lettuce... that is my next try with the leftovers.

I have some more posts coming soon!

Scrapbook Paper Collage

I have been searching for art work to go above my couch in my living room. At first, I saw a picture at World Market and decided to I could paint it but using this colors in my room. Click here to see the inspiration piece.
This is my version. I hung it up for a while and just decided that it was not working for me. So after seeing the what Jess at Frugal with a Flourish did with a canvas painting I got the idea to make a scrapbook paper collage.

So here is how it came out!

(Sorry that the pictures are not the best quality. I need a new camera.) I am still not sure what I think. I am going to leave it up and live with it for a while before I decide. Please let me know what you think to help me decide.
